English Curriculum
Our English curriculum develops confident readers, writers and communicators across KS2 and KS3. Pupils study a rich range of texts, from traditional stories and modern novels to poetry, non-fiction and classic literature. They learn essential skills in grammar, spelling and vocabulary, and apply these through varied writing such as narratives, reports, persuasive pieces, essays and creative work.
Reading lessons build strong comprehension, including inference, analysis and discussion of themes and characters.
In KS3, pupils explore more complex texts such as The Tempest by Shakespeare and selected Sherlock Holmes stories. They develop deeper analytical skills and greater accuracy, independence and sophistication in their writing, alongside structured opportunities for debate, presentations and collaborative work.
