Character Curriculum

Character Curriculum

At Compton Dundon School, character education is central to our ethos of "Belong, Discover, Grow." We believe that developing positive character traits is essential to supporting pupils’ wellbeing, behaviour and readiness for life. For our learners, many of whom face daily challenges, character development requires time, consistency and carefully structured support delivered with care and patience.

Character education is embedded throughout school life, including daily routines, relationships and the wider curriculum. Pupils are supported to develop moral virtues such as kindness, honesty and fairness; civic virtues such as respect, cooperation and responsibility; performance virtues including perseverance, resilience and self-discipline; and growing independence through confidence, problem-solving and decision-making. These traits help pupils regulate emotions, build positive relationships and develop self-belief.

Staff play a vital role by modelling positive values, reinforcing expectations and recognising progress. Character development is celebrated through assemblies, awards, displays and communication with families, ensuring pupils’ achievements are valued and visible. Our approach supports personal growth alongside academic learning, helping pupils become confident, compassionate and responsible members of their community and the wider world.
