SEN Teaching Assistant Required

SEN Teaching Assistant

Compton Dundon School is an independent special school, situated in the beautiful Somerset countryside, which provides up to 24 places for children aged 5–14 years old who have social, emotional and mental health needs, speech and language difficulties and/or autistic spectrum condition.

We are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and inspirational Teaching Assistant to join our forward-thinking school. We are looking for an individual who, under the direction of the class teacher, will be responsible for classroom pupil support and will be happy with some delivery of small group or 1:1 teaching and learning.

This is an opportunity to be part of a skilled staff team that work hard to plan a creative educational approach. We pride ourselves in being more of a family community, continually seeking ways to positively engage with and motivate pupils through lessons that promote learning and raise levels of attainment. Our small class sizes mean that there is greater focus on building a purposeful learning environment that meets the individual educational needs of pupils, helping to narrow the attainment gap.

You will be passionate, ambitious and committed to each young person to help enable successful learning as well as help them make social, emotional and behavioural progress. Through role-modelling and application of the school’s vision, ethos and aims you will help each of our young people make continued improvements in their spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical well-being in preparation for the future stages in their lives.

Previous experience is desirable, and you must have excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to create and maintain written records accurately.

The position is a permanent one, as continuity is very important for our children. The start date as well as the salary are negotiable for the perfect match (meaning someone who has the relevant skills, qualifications and experience to suit the role, and who is up for the challenge!). Additionally, the role would suit someone who is keen to undertake further training opportunities and potentially progress to the role of class teacher.

Compton Dundon School values its staff and works hard to support staff wellbeing. We encourage visits from interested parties prior to formal interview so that we can show you around.

Compton Dundon School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All successful applicants require a full UK driving licence and will be subject to a fully Enhanced DBS check.
