Protecting our pupils...

At Compton Dundon School, the Health, safety and wellbeing of every child is our top priority. We expect all staff and volunteers and visitors to share this commitment to safeguarding our pupils. We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All School staff are trained in child protection and safeguarding and children are made aware of the adults they can talk to if they have any concerns. Staff are trained to look out for signs of physical/emotional harm or neglect and are required to report these to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Mr. Jon Lloyd, or his Deputy DSLs, Mrs Linda Moss or Mrs Sharon Love.

The procedures that we follow have been laid down by Somerset Safeguarding Partnership and the school has adopted a child protection and safeguarding policy based on their guidance. If you have a concern about a child within our school please inform either Mr . Lloyd or Mrs Moss at the school.

If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child outside of our school please inform Somerset Safeguarding Partnership on 0300 123 2224 or email on childrens@somerset.gov.uk.

Government guidance says that safeguarding means:

Protecting children from maltreatment.

Preventing impairment of children's health or development.

Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.

Taking action to enable all children and young people to have the best outcomes.

We recognise that promoting the welfare of our pupils and protecting them from harm is everyone’s responsibility. As such, Compton Dundon School takes its role in safeguarding young people extremely seriously and does all it can to protect young people from harm.

This includes:

  • Operating a secure site and ensuring that all visitors to the school are recorded and monitored (including a Stranger On Site protocol).
  • Completing school site surveys with students to identify any risks to their safety.
  • Ensuring that all young people understand the importance of e-safety both at school and at home.
  • Ensuring that we follow safer recruitment practices to prevent those who pose a risk to children gaining access to our students.
  • We monitor and filter all internet traffic into the school to ensure that young people cannot be exposed to harmful material.
  • Ensuring that all staff employed by the school have received Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance which is recorded in the Single Central Record.
  • Regular training for all staff in child protection.
  • Regular review of policies and procedures.
  • Empowering pupils to recognise risks both within school and in their community.
  • Providing pupils with the skills and confidence to protect themselves and others.
  • Any issues or concerns about safeguarding can be directed to the designated staff members.
