Our Proprietors & Ethos

Jon Lloyd & Richard Maynard

"We have a long background in SEN education having worked in different roles in schools across the South West throughout our careers. We have experienced first-hand how difficult the whole educational experience can be for pupils with specific needs as well as for their families, who have often experienced frustration regarding the lack of understanding for their child.

With this in mind we created Propel Education Ltd in 2018 and opened Compton Dundon School in January 2019 following a successful Ofsted pre-registration inspection" (full report can be found on this website).

The Purpose

The purpose of the school is to create a pupil-centred educational package that caters for each individual need. We are passionate about creating a school environment and learning experience that will first allow each pupil to feel comfortable and happy at school and then as a result be able to thrive and achieve their full potential.

Many pupils have certain phobias and anxieties surrounding school life, whether it be attending in general or certain aspects of school such as noise, social interactions, environmental issues, size of peer groups or specific elements of the curriculum such as PE or reading. We understand the need to work hard with parents/carers and other professionals as well as with the pupils to address individual difficulties and create a bespoke educational experience that aims to remove any anxieties and create an environment in which each individual can realise their potential.

What We've Done

We have built a dedicated, specialist staff team who support our wonderful pupils to achieve aspirational, personal and social outcomes. We have a range of facilities to provide students with the best educational experiences and learning opportunities. Our learning environment is calm, understanding, welcoming and safe. We are very keen to stay at the forefront of education and technological developments and are looking to improve further the educational experience through the continual improvement of facilities and introduction of state of the art IT such as Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.

By promoting school involvement, securing personal development and academic achievement our goal is to thoroughly prepare each pupil for the next stage of their academic life and provide the skills and tools to ensure that future academic experiences can be successfully managed and completed.

We have high expectations of our students and celebrate their ongoing successes through positive rewards!

We intend to achieve our teaching excellence and practice by:

  • Providing the student with security, care and stability.
  • Provide the feeling of well-being, self-worth and self-esteem.
  • Promote continuous and purposeful contact with the parents and concerned agencies.
  • Provision of individual support through a high staff/pupil ratio.
  • Monitoring of the students development and the provision of considered programmes of support (positive reward system for rewarding appropriate behaviour).
  • Enable students to recognise and address issues surrounding their behaviour through a fundamental understanding of the purpose of the school and its structure.
  • Promote an understanding and close identification with the school by encouraging the use of shared experiences both in the curriculum and extra curriculum activities.
  • Develop the student’s personal and social skills to provide the basis for the development of an integrated, independent and confident member of society.
  • Directly address the issue of disaffection with education in the organisation of the curriculum, teaching methods and programmes of study.
  • Equip the student with the skills necessary for the successful transition from school to further education or work based learning.

We aim to:

  • Provide a quality care and education facility and endeavour to give young people who have had many setbacks a fresh start in life.
  • Encourage a ‘can do’ culture at the school and by recognising students’ individual needs we are able to work with their particular strengths and help them achieve to their full potential.
  • Us a positive School Rewards System to encourage and motivate students to succeed academically and to manager their behaviour appropriately.
  • Build confidence and self-esteem through the use of praise and encouragement.
